Sacremento law makers are considering a proposal from Senator Leland Yee to fine parents of children who ski without helmets. The fine is part of a bill introduced this year.
The San Mateo Democrat says he drafted the bill after seeing a study that showed kids ski helmets can cut in half the risk of serious head injuries in children 15 and younger.
The suggested bill is not without its opponents. Individual freedom and the role of Government in personal lives was in the forefront of Republican Tom Harman, who opposes the bill.
